THE CITY

Austin Proud

Texans have long known what the rest of the world is just figuring out: Austin is a gem. Over the past few years, the city has transformed into one of the world’s most talked about destinations, with outstanding food, incredible music, vibrant culture, and plenty of scenic beauty.

As a premiere hotel in the center of the action, Colton House gives you a front-row seat to the city that Fodor’s calls “a boomtown of culture and creativity.”

The Music

You can pretty much throw a rock and find great music in the Live Music Capital of the World, and there is no shortage of venues to visit on any given night (or day). From hometown favorites like The Broken Spoke, Cactus Cafe, and the legendary blues joint Antone’s to ACL Live at the Moody Theater (where they do live tapings of “Austin City Limits”), the city is a music lover’s paradise.

The Museums

Soak in some Texas history at The Bullock Texas State History Museum, tour the domed state capitol, or activate your senses at the eclectic and impressive Blanton Museum of Art on the UT campus. There are also plenty of art galleries to explore around the city where you can get to know the local painters, sculptors and illustrators who call the city home.

The Outdoors

Barton Springs is a 3-acre pool fed directly from a natural spring, and it’s right in the heart of this nature loving city. The pool is inside the 358-acre Zilker Park, where you can hike or run, see live music, have a picnic, or take advantage of one of the many playgrounds. You can also stroll around Town Lake (also known as Ladybird Lake), rent a kayak, or visit the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. There are also year-round events and festivals in the city, so take your pick and get ready to take full advantage of all the city has to offer.

The Food

Is it Tex Mex you’re craving? Or maybe it’s some real-deal BBQ. Austin has quickly become a class act when it comes to cuisine. The city’s chefs take their cues from Mexican, Asian, African, and Middle Eastern food and beyond. The city also boasts plenty of breweries and beer gardens, perfect for sitting outside on a gorgeous day.
